Beware of the sin of Pride
One of the most deadliest sins that the heavens and the earth has ever come into contact with is a sin called pride. Pride is the root and source of all sin. Pride is what condemned the devil, or as the scripture says, “the condemnation of the devil.” Pride is selfishness, and exalting oneself above the mind of God. We are living in a time where pride is something that many people are proud of, and actually encourage one another to posses. What many people fail to understand is what the Scriptures teach us about pride. Is pride something that should be found among the people of God? In this blog we are going to dive into the Scriptures to see how God feels about pride according to what is written in the Holy Scriptures. I know that what you about to read is contrary to the common thought, but it is going to test how much do you really believe what is written. If you find yourself fighting against the Scriptures, or trying to find some way to justify pride in your life, this blog served it’s purpose by revealing the children of pride.
The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. (Proverbs 8:13)
When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom. (Proverbs 11:2)
Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom. (Proverbs 13:10)
In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them. (Proverbs 14:3)
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18)
A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit. (Proverbs 29:23)
But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him: (Daniel 5:20)
The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? (Obadiah 1:3)
And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. (Mark 7:20-23)
These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. (Proverbs 6:16-19)
Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished. (Proverbs 16:5)
He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat. (Proverbs 28:25)
For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low: (Isaiah 2:12)
And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. (Isaiah 13:11)
Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. (Romans 1:29-32)
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. (2 Timothy 3:1-5)
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. (James 4:6)
These are only a few scriptures concerning pride that condemn pride, being proud, arrogancy, highmindness, heady, lofty, etc. Pride is an evil condition of the conscience. There is a difference between being confident, filled with faith, and being selfwilled. One of the signs of pride is when someone talks more about their own self than they do about the one who actually deserves the credit, which is God through what is already written in the Scriptures.
The proud have been deceived that they are powerful because no one can humble them. What a great deception! What a strong delusion! The proud feel unstoppable, and think that if they can maintain their pride unto the moment of their death that it is sign that God is with them. Someone can die proud, but one thing is sure that in the day of the Lord, that pride will be done away with at the presence of the Lord. In that day, the Lord shall punish the proud for their loftiness, and self will exalting themselves above the humble.
It was the self will (pride) of satan that condemned him when he begin to exalt his will above the will of God.
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I WILL ascend into heaven, I WILL exalt my throne above the stars of God: I WILL sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I WILL ascend above the heights of the clouds; I WILL be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. (Isaiah 14:12-15)
What satan was doing was not retaining God in his knowledge, and filling his own mind with his own will and prideful boastings. When someone exalts themselves because they are power hungry they are very close to being cut down by God Himself. You see, instead letting someone else praise them, they take it upon themselves to praise themselves to gain respect. Have they not read?
Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips. (Proverbs 27:2)
This includes writing about yourself in the third person like you are someone else praising yourself. They are self cheerleaders cheering themselves on! Vainglory. Pride is a contagious disease that spreads like a cancer, and eats everything up. The opposite of pride is humilty. This is the true mark of the people of God. When the Lord Jesus displayed humilty it destroyed pride, and the work of the devil just by making Himself of no reputation. This is what we need in this hour, humble leadership that will destroy pride. Praise God for raising up humble leadership that follow the example that the Messiah left us. Jesus’ ministry is the ministry that this is needed in this hour, one that is seasoned with strength, truth, stedfastness, and mixed with humility (the absence of pride). Praise God.
